[01:30] too many celebrity stories. Because that is my... [01:34] favorite corner of the internet. I love a pop culture moment. [01:37] We had many this week. [01:39] primarily the one that I was enjoying the most following was Timothy Chalamet and Kylie Jenner. Hard launching at the Beyonce concert. [01:47] and then a fast follow with the US Open. Incredible content coming out of there, but. [01:52] not enough of an internet native story. [01:55] But... [01:56] Please, if you have not been following it, there's incredible tweets and memes that are coming out of it. [02:02] love them together. That's my hot take just for the internet. But I'm going to tell a different celebrity story [02:08] And yes, this is a celebrity story. It is pop culture, but it's [02:12] also and more importantly about [02:14] What happens when the internet takes what you're putting out and then [02:20] it has a life of its own that you have no control over, even if you're... [02:25] a very famous person. Okay. So we are going to talk about the Joe... [02:28] Jonas, Sophie Turner, divorce. [02:31] which came out of [02:33] Nowhere. [02:34] a shock [02:35] To us all. I am not a fan of either of these people. I think that has given me clear eyes and a full heart to really approach the story. You're a non-biased journalist. I'm a non-biased journalist. I was never a Jonas Brothers girl. I liked Game of Thrones an appropriate amount, which looking back is an inappropriate amount. And I never thought they were that cool together. [02:57] So, [02:58] The news hits. [03:00] Thursday of last week that they're having problems.

[03:03] out of nowhere. These people have two babies together, they seem happy, [03:07] people were shocked. The following day... [03:10] Friday before Labor Day weekend. [03:12] it is announced that Joe Jonas has filed for divorce. [03:16] And the internet... [03:18] erupts. [03:19] People have opinions. [03:21] And... [03:23] I'm going to set that aside, and I'm going to talk to you about the corner of the internet that has been most interesting to me. [03:28] And that is... [03:29] when publicists, [03:32] decide what the narrative is going to be and try to make that happen. [03:35] So Joe Jonas has a team. [03:37] It seems. Sure. Who started to seed a story that... [03:42] I think they tried to do secretly. [03:44] that it wasn't them, but [03:46] a very famous PR [03:48] crisis management [03:50] individual. [03:51] Her name is Molly McPherson. She is very famed. [03:54] She has a TikTok where she breaks down PR stories that happen. I found her via Reddit where people were discussing what they think happened to this divorce and what the PR fallout has been. Okay. [04:05] So... [04:06] Essentially what happened, for those who don't know, is there were stories that started to get seeded that they were getting divorced because Sophie Turner liked to party too much. [04:14] And he is a homebody. [04:17] That was like the first TMZ sources report type thing. [04:21] The internet decides, "Oh, [04:22] Hell no. You cannot have that. That is not true. They start digging up all these old videos of her during COVID and when she's younger, she's like 23. Yeah. Being like, I'm a homebody. I'm a big homebody. And they're like, this is not true.

[04:34] So a first viral tweet that sort of encapsulates that moment of like this first story gets seeded by TMZ and the internet responds. [04:42] is a woman named @RebeccaMaussell. [04:45] who has a tweet that has been like 65,000 times. [04:49] And she says, "I watched tall girl Sophie Turner act her ass off from 14 to 23 and grew into a clearly brilliant, hilarious, unproblematic woman, and I'm supposed to take this Disney Channel side bang, [05:01] smear campaign anywhere but serious could have just filled in shut your mouth now I'm riding at dawn like people were like no way dude she is a gem we love her she is not [05:13] Okay. So then it's like, okay, he's starting to get some backlash. [05:17] And all of this, of course, is not coming from him. It's TMZ sources and whatever. [05:21] And a lot of this I'm getting from this publicist who's breaking down what's happened. [05:26] Then the next thing that happens is there's a new source that says... [05:30] Joe Jonas is breaking up with her. The final straw was that he witnessed something wrong. [05:36] on a ring camera. [05:38] TMZ reported them. [05:40] Quote, multiple sources said that, quote, Joe had access to a ring cam that he said captured Sophia saying and slash or doing something that made him realize the marriage was over. Oof. Brutal. Brutal. What was on the ring camera? That's what everybody's asking. And so everybody on the Internet is like, what's on the ring camera? There's a ton of memes that have come out of what he witnessed. Most of them are people making fun of him being shorter and her being taller. So, like, he saw her putting things on the top shelf and things like that.

[06:10] of memes that came out. [06:12] final sort of piece to the story is that they have a joint statement. [06:16] And this is really where this woman breaks down why you make a joint statement, when you make a joint statement, and why she believed that Joe Jonas was [06:23] behind all of the other backlash that came out. Okay. [06:27] She said you never hear about these types of things on a Friday before a long weekend or a Friday at all. Okay. So the fastness of it. [06:34] is suspicious. [06:35] And then she said, [06:37] basically if [06:39] the noise is around one specific person. [06:42] Sophie Turner in this case. [06:44] And she has been quiet. [06:46] besides this joint statement that was very [06:49] like crafted and neutral. Yeah. [06:51] And she was like, clearly this has gone back and forth between teams because of the way that she, they use the word marriage here because of the way, it's crazy how crafted like crisis comms are. [07:00] Anyway, one of the things that she said was that [07:03] It's. [07:04] clear that [07:04] because of that. [07:06] Sophie Turner was the one who wanted to get out of the marriage. [07:08] And she's like, whenever there's noise around one person and someone else is silent, [07:13] like Sophie Turner in this case. [07:15] she's probably the one who wanted the divorce. [07:17] Oh, interesting. Deep dive. Because then she doesn't have any leverage in the negotiations around how the statement comes out, is what you're saying. [07:25] More so that she... [07:27] wants to be out of the marriage so badly that it's... She's willing to eat shit on the... She's just like, I'm going to eat shit and get... [07:32] cut and run [07:34] Wow. So a few other funny tweets that I do want to read that sort of bring this internet story to life a little bit more.

We're going wholesome for the next story. There is a man, a young man, [09:04] who has basically... [09:06] memorized Google Maps. Oh my god, I'm so excited you're talking about this. I've been exposed to this man. Okay. He, first of all, is

[09:14] like I mean he's [09:16] I would say adorable. A sweetie. I don't know. He's not stunning. [09:20] I think he's stunning. He's... Whoa. That is a crazy-ass take. Really? Stunning? Yeah. Okay, anyway, there's this young man, and he's memorized Google Maps, and he has gone viral many times before. He's, at this point, a media internet personality, but he went viral this week again. [10:00] because [10:01] Someone posted a photo from a plane window. [10:04] The photo that the person in this plane took [10:06] Was it your total... [10:07] standard, [10:08] nothing, plain photo. Run of the mill. Run of the mill, out the window. Literally could have been any of the [10:16] one million photos that were taken out of phone windows that day. Okay. [10:19] And he was able to say... [10:22] Exactly. Not only exactly where that person was in the world, based on identifying a [10:29] teeny tiny little lake, but what seat they were sitting on on the plane. [10:34] insane that's insane so he goes by crazy insane barrel because of this reel that he cut how did he get there [10:41] So, [10:42] I'll give some backstory. [10:43] There's this game called GeoGuessr.

[10:45] Have you ever played it? [10:46] No. It's really fun, actually. Okay. You get served a random photo from... [10:52] Google Maps still. [10:54] And you then have a map and you have to kind of place on the map where you think the photo was taken. [10:59] Like a street view photo? Yeah, like a street view photo. Yeah. [11:02] and [11:04] So, [11:05] He is... [11:07] what my kid would call God level at this game. He's insane. Like, he's insane. Most of his reels and a lot of the stuff that he's gone viral for before is it's this totally nondescript dirt road and he's like, oh, bam, Vietnam. And it's like, yeah, you were right. And then it's like this weird fence in whatever. And then he's like, [11:24] bam, that's Michigan. He's insane at this game. Do you have a sense for how... [11:30] it takes him to get to that information. [11:32] - 0.1 seconds. - Oh, he's that fast. - Wow, okay, incredible. [11:36] his mind. I read some interviews with him and listened to some stuff, [11:41] about him talking about this skill. [11:43] And he has said in interviews that he had never had an interest in geography. [11:46] It was never a thing. And he was like, three years ago, I would have never been able to even say 100 countries. [11:52] Wow. But he has basically played this game like an obsessive crazy amount. And... [11:56] has gotten really good at what he says is pattern recognition. - Okay. - So he's looking at the dirt, and he's able to like, okay, that's a little red, reddish, that's gonna be in Southeastern Asia. Or he looks at poles, and he's like, okay, poles in Hungary have like weird little holes in them. And then he's looking at the lines on the side of the street. [12:15] Because these photos, they're nothing, but they do have some context clues in them. Okay. And he's a...

[12:18] He's pulling in the context clues. And then he's also like, is the photo super grainy? If it's super grainy, then it was taking on an older version of Google car map things. And then it was like, that might be in Nigeria. So I have a question for you about this guy. Yeah. [12:30] How is he making a living? [12:31] He's a media man now. [12:33] He, like... Monetizing his content. Monetizing... Yeah. How does one monetize their content? Asking for a friend. [12:42] I mean, I saw on his reel, he had some movie sponsorship where there was like, [12:47] I don't know, some Vin Diesel movie. Okay, okay, okay, okay. So he's doing paid promotion and also presumably getting whatever the creator fund from TikTok. Would love to have him on the pod. Would die to have him on the podcast. Okay, so he goes viral this week. [13:01] for basically this [13:04] insane plane photo. [13:06] and [13:07] The internet goes crazy. And then I'm looking at some of his other videos, and some of his other videos look really sweet, where people are sending in photos of [13:13] like, hi, my mom passed away, and this is one of the photos that I have with her, and it's taken in this place. I don't know where it was. Like, I was a kid, and it's me as a kid and her, and like, I'm in like, and it's like some photo, like, on a lake, and someone being like, I'd love to know where we went on vacation together, and I [13:29] He's able to like jujitsu into the lake and the corner. And he was like, this is where you were. And that person's like, oh my gosh, that's amazing. Wow. I know. So there's a lot of that on his... [13:39] Okay. [13:40] on his feet and it's really... [13:42] I love it. I love this corner of the internet. I know. It's really nice. It's really nice. [13:46] Anyway, shout out Trevor Rainbolt.

No, but I saw this story went hyper- [13:59] Viral. Hyper viral. E-news level. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The holy grail. Okay, great. Great. Okay, should we move to the next story? So my next story... [14:09] It is a corner of the internet. I will be shocked if you have exposure to. Okay. Okay. [14:14] I HAVE -- [14:16] the smallest amount of exposure and I'm going to get into it. [14:19] Logan Paul. [14:20] None. Zero. Thank the Lord. Thank you, Jesus. For real. So... [14:27] For those who don't know, Logan Paul is a viral YouTube star, one of the first. [14:33] started as a teenager. [14:35] And he has... [14:37] taken that career as a YouTube star [14:40] And... [14:41] parlayed it into becoming a boxer, a fighter. [14:46] Not a lover. And... [14:48] I do not know this corner of the internet. [14:51] I [14:52] think that [14:53] Logan Paul is [14:54] Disgusting. [14:56] and he was originally cancelled. [14:58] back in 2018. [15:00] because he went to Japan [15:03] And there's like a very famous forest. Yeah, I don't want to talk about this. [15:06] I know what happened. [15:08] It's a terrible story. It's a terrible story, yeah. So he was canceled. [15:10] Yeah. [15:11] First, one of the first YouTube stars to be deplatformed. [15:14] and they didn't throw ads. [15:17] then YouTube was like, never mind, this is great for business.

[15:19] But anyway. [15:20] He is a... [15:22] represents everything that I hate about toxic masculinity. I think he is fame hungry. I think he is homophobic and a misogynist. Go off. Yeah. Really don't like this guy. [15:32] And this corner of the internet attracts that type of man. [15:36] So this [15:38] story is sort of dark. [15:40] And I am just going to go off on it because I think it is representative of a thing that happens on the Internet that is [15:48] physically upsetting to me. Okay. And disturbs me. And I think we should look at it and decide that we're not going to be this way. Great. [15:55] So, [15:56] I [15:57] have not been exposed to him for years. [15:59] Then Twitter a few months ago surfaced a video to me that I watched, I have to admit, [16:04] several times. [16:05] of Logan Paul getting engaged to this woman named Nina Agdahl. [16:10] They're in Lake Como. [16:12] It's beautiful. [16:14] a beautiful couple. [16:15] he proposes to her. They seem very genuinely happy and it's quite wholesome. Okay. And I'm like, wow, okay, not a fan, but like, [16:21] Thank you. [16:22] So then because of that, every once in a while now, I'll get fed some Logan Paul stuff. The algorithm's like, [16:27] she liked it once yeah I didn't even like it but I watched it too many times let's try that again [16:33] And also really quick, I know one of the things that happened is as he's proposing, he has his phone in front of him. [16:38] And she's like, "Put your phone away." [16:40] And he's like, I can't. [16:42] as they're like, [16:43] getting engaged in this very like romantic moment. And he was like, press this. [16:47] and then she presses it and they keep going. [16:48] And that's actually what made me watch the video so many times. What is he doing? I have no idea.

[16:52] and you never find out. [16:53] He is a mastermind at [16:56] viral content. Oh, he's just engineering some viral thing. And within... Some curiosity. Yeah. And that's what made me watch it four times. Okay. I was like, what? I kept trying to figure out what was happening. Okay. [17:05] Anyway, that's just [17:06] weird internet stuff. - That's like the growth hack that people keep recommending to us, which is post content that you know is wrong. [17:12] Exactly. And then people engage in it and watch it to try and like-- [17:15] say, [17:16] He's figured it out. And he did it in this very intimate moment with his fiancée. Dark. [17:21] So he is a fighter, I guess. He boxes, apparently. [17:25] And there's this other guy named Dylan Danis. [17:28] You've not seen the story at all? I have never seen that name. Wow, okay, Dylan Danis is [17:33] I was not exposed to him at all either. He's an MMA fighter, I believe. [17:36] and now he's boxing. [17:38] And they are set to fight each other in a match, in a boxing match. [17:42] whether this is regulated or just like they're renting. Can I tell you something about me? [17:46] Talk to me. [17:47] You hate boxing. No, I... [17:49] when I was 18. [17:50] I was a licensed amateur boxer. Shut up! Are you serious? There's a photo of me in our local newspaper when I was doing boxing. Incredible! Wow! Now you know? What? Yeah. Oh my god. So I have a love for the sport. Okay. Wow. I did not expect that because you were like, I can't watch football. It's too violent. No, I don't watch it. But like, I appreciate it. I appreciate it in a way that I don't watch. But yeah. Okay. So they're set to fight each other. [18:35] And then... [18:37] Quickly, [18:38] it starts to become really about [18:41] Nina Agdal. [18:42] Oh. And Nina Agdahl is very beautiful. She's a Swedish supermodel. She's a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model. [18:48] She has dated very high profile men. She has dated [18:52] A-list, Liam Hemsworth, Leonardo DiCaprio, very famous men. [18:55] And he starts going off on her on Instagram, Dylan Danis. [19:00] He's like, [19:00] Logan Paul's fiance has run through. Here's all the men she's been with. [19:04] starts posting more and more explicit content of her. - What a nice young man. - What a fucking asshole. [19:10] And [19:11] It gets really [19:13] It is harassment. It is disgusting. [19:17] It's like every single post on his Instagram is about this woman. And then starting to get more and more intimate in the photos he's choosing and sexual and explicit and... [19:27] So then what happens is [19:30] they have a quote unquote [19:31] face to face sit down. Okay. That's [19:34] on YouTube, it has like hundreds of thousands of views, [19:37] And it's the two of them [19:40] talking to each other. [19:42] And it is. [19:43] the stupidest. Two intellectuals. A tête-à-tête between two intellectual men. It's insane. I don't want to layer on more online hate about people. Okay. But go off. It's bad. At one point,

[19:57] The Dylan guy, like, literally can't get words out. And you're like, what is happening? [20:01] Are you sure that this whole thing, including the harassment, wasn't [20:05] orchestrated for promotion? This is my [20:07] big take is that [20:09] I don't think that this was orchestrated [20:13] like the whole thing was orchestrated. [20:15] But... [20:16] Logan Paul has fueled the flame of this. All this toxic masculine, like, I'm gonna defend, this is all about defending my woman. And I'm like, no, it's about like views and clicks [20:25] and being fame hungry and wanting to utilize any outlet in order to do that. And [20:31] So she has filed a lawsuit. [20:33] in the District Court of New Jersey. I dense Dylan, this is [20:37] a quote I believe from [20:40] Page six. [20:40] So reporting live. The suit was filed in the U.S. District Court of the District of New Jersey and included requests for a temporary restraining order against Dennis. [20:49] a preliminary injunction to stop him from posting more photos or videos, [20:53] And [20:54] an eventual permanent restraining order. Agdahl is claiming two counts of disclosure of an intimate image and one count of invasion of privacy. She's [21:02] saying that this is revenge porn and that she has the right to sue him. And she does. [21:07] so [21:08] she will sue him. She's suing him for like $100 million or something like that. [21:12] Maybe not that much, but... [21:13] A lot. She was suing him for a lot of money. [21:15] and she has gotten the temporary restraining order. To just talk about what type of internet this is and where it stretches to, [21:23] Another person who has weighed in on this and is involved is Andrew Tate. [21:27] who is

[21:29] a literal criminal, like a literal sex offender. Disgusting. [21:32] And I'm just like, all of these people, [21:35] Wow. Are doing whatever it takes. [21:37] for other people to talk about it. And part of me is like, I'm talking about it, and that upsets me, but I'm also like, [21:42] this is like a [21:43] This is... [21:43] the dark side of internet culture. Yeah. [21:46] and what people are willing to do. [21:48] And it's really gross. Really gross. [21:50] - I feel so blessed to be fully sheltered from that part of the internet. - Yeah, well, yeah, just like, [21:57] click onto YouTube and you'll be like, oh my gosh. And then you cannot escape it. And it's really in front of you. [22:02] I think it's a story about like online hate against women and a willingness to do anything, to be famous. And so I'm sorry. That's my sad Internet story. It's OK. It's fine. I appreciate you being an anthropologist and traversing to the toxic male Internet so that we don't have to. Yes, there it is. [23:31] spiritual reasons why you may not be seeing, [23:35] and that you can be healed. Wow. [23:37] by the power of [23:39] Gwyneth? [23:39] by the power of [23:41] we're Gwyneth adjacent here. Herbs. Basically. And that basically her thesis is [23:48] glasses don't address the root cause of [23:51] of your unseeing and that it just masks [23:54] the symptoms and you need to address the root cause. Okay. They don't treat the whole person. You just have to let go of the belief that you can't see. [24:01] This is insane. As a context where this is such a stupid take. Okay, so she's doing this video. It's on TikTok. It's the stupidest take you've ever seen in your life. Then it gets to the point where she's like... Wait, wait. I have some questions about this. Okay. Is she famous online? Does she have a following? I mean, she's gone viral now. So, okay. Yes, but... [24:20] previously your standard [24:22] Central casting. So she won. Holistic. She has won. She has won. Yeah, she's won. [24:27] unfortunately. [24:29] So it gets [24:30] to she's going through let go of the belief, like whatever, all this holistic bullshit.

She wears glasses. I'm assuming she wears glasses. [25:04] And she actually, I don't know that, but she's going. Oh, she's buying it. Well, she's buying it for the bit. Oh, OK. She's doing it for the bit. And she then does work. [25:13] totally the Lord's work. And then she does a huge long thread with screenshots and all this [25:19] stuff from what the masterclass entails. Okay. And as you can imagine, [25:23] - She was absolutely roasted. I mean, this woman is... - Mm. [25:26] deserves to be roasted but she's like just the screenshots are just absolutely brutal. Yeah. [25:31] and it's incredible to see the evidence. One of the lines was, "Glasses are a barrier between us and others, and it's a way of hiding from the world." Oh my God! Okay. [25:39] And then they have an eye health break halfway through.
